Days after nine people were killed in the Vivek Vihar fire tragedy, the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government has amended the fire safety regulations in the national capital.
According to a notification issued by the Delhi Government, the capital city has implemented the Delhi Fire Service (Amendment) Rules, 2025.

Under the amended rules, private experts or companies will now also be engaged to inspect fire safety arrangements in buildings across Delhi.
These individuals or entities will be designated as ‘Fire Safety Auditors’ and must be registered with the Director of the Delhi Fire Service.
The Fire Safety Certificate, specifically, the Fire NOC (No Objection Certificate) issued by them following a thorough inspection, will be considered valid.
The development comes days after the major fire tragedy in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi claimed nine innocent lives.
According to officials, at least nine people, including a toddler, died in the fire that broke out in a residential building in the early hours of Sunday, May 3.
The blaze engulfed multiple flats on the second, third and fourth floors of the building.
